OCVBC completes very successful run at the Volleyball Festival. OCVBC 14 Blue wins the club's thirty-first National Championship
The OCVBC 14 Blue went undefeated and won the National Championship at the twenty-sixth Volleyball Festival. This was the fourteenth Festival National Championship for the club. Led by setter Torey Thompson, outside hitters Tristan Thompson and Grace Kennedy, middle blocking Reegan Dennis, Stephanie Serna and Carolyn Bockrath, as well as the ball handling of libero Hunter Jennings, Orange County defeated a tough Beach Cities team in three exciting games. Opposite hitter, Delaney Pouch, was forced to sit out the final days' matches after suffering a severe ankle injury after an emotional win over Avoli Lianeras of Puerto Rico, the team that had won the championship last year. The back court play of Katie Curci, Katie Senske, and Tess Arthur were outstanding and major factors in the team's success. Coach Scott Bruce was impressive with the assistance from Larissa Nordyke.
Matt Skolnik's OCVBC 15 Blue also played in the finals and lost a heartbreaker, 16-14 in the third and final game. The 15's were led by outside hitters Mary McKennon and Ashley Cox, the middle blocking of Holly Patrick, Kasey Thompson, and Britton Taylor, setting duo of Jordyn Alessi and Nikki Borchard, opposite play of Carla Cantarella, and the back court serving and ball control from Tatum Norton, Biz Buckingham and Kaili Brande. The inspired play led to many three game thrillers that the 15 Blue team won.
